Motorcycle Rendering Tutorial for Photoshop, creating a 'photoreal' 2D motorcycle

Hi there and welcome to my second tutorial. Perhaps weird to do so, but I would like to
open with a word of advice. My mind can be quite chaotic at times, during this tutorial it
certainly was. I made a number of silly mistakes and I'll show them to you in the course
of the tutorial. So please read through the whole tutorial first.. you'll notice some things
that I would change from the start if I were to make this image over again.
If you don't quite understand what happened in a certain step of the tutorial, just read on,
there's a chance that I will explain in a later step to prevent having too much text with
some images.

How to create a simple crowd

To execute this tutorial you must download and install CrowdMaker 0.5 (or higher). On the
next pages you can see the procedure to create a scene and the avaible functions to control
the scripts. We limit the simulation to only 15 particles, the script work with a maximum of
1000 (visible in the next image).

Creating High Res Polygonal Models

This tutorial will concentrate on how to use smoothed polygonal geometry to create high
res models in Maya.We will be going over the advantages and disadvantages of this
type of surface when compared to Nurbs or SubD surfaces. We will cover what sorts of
technical challenges smoothed polygons present. We will use custom MEL scripts and
History to overcome these challenges on your character model. Finally we will cover how
to implement this type of modeling in a production pipeline. And I will show some tips
on how to work with a character setup artist to merge your final polygonal model and
textures into a well organized character reference file.

Global Illumination and Final Gather in Mental Ray for Maya

Currently, one of the best ways of achieving photo-realistic imagery is to render using
Mental Ray for Maya. Mental Ray offers a Global Illumination and Final Gather solution,
which when combined, simulates the physics of real world lighting effects. Now, for the
first time in 3d, lighting techniques used by photographers and filmmakers can be applied
to computer graphics. The following is a guide for setting up Global Illumination and
Final Gather using Mental Ray for Maya. It is based on notes from the web, Maya’s Help
manual and good-old fashion experimentation.

Create Realistic Poly Ear

Poly-by-poly is a modeling technique that involves constructing the polygons one by one, aiming at drawing the "edge-loops" of the object, similar to spline modeling. The objective of this tutorial is to demonstrate how easy it is to use this technique, where loops are "staged" from the beginning, instead of cutting the mesh many times as it happens with box modeling.
This technique applies to all software that have polygon modeling tools (Max, Light wave, XSI,
Cinema, Wngs etc). For the purpose of this tutorial I am using the Maya along with the CPS script that has the same functions as NURMS in Max. The ear was constructed keeping in mind the correct positioning of loops. This model is 100% QUAD. Therefore, if in any image you might see some triangles, you can be certain that it's just the intersection of faces or the angle of the camera.
